The fault affects the 8E image processing module, more precisely its processor.
Most common on the following models:

The cause is years of heating up and cooling down, combined with the module sitting at the top of the car, where the sun bakes it harder.
To fix it, the processor has to be resoldered, or the 8E module replaced completely and programmed online.
